Krista’s Tour of Marblehead:
Schools |
page 6 |
Whether you have school age children or
not, you can tell a lot about a community's spirit and character by the quality of its schools. |
Marblehead now boasts a new, state-of-the-art public high
school that was dedicated in the fall of 2002. The 215,000 square-foot facility’s classrooms, computer and science
labs were designed in response to today’s learning and teaching methods.
There is a handsome new library. The double gymnasium has an indoor track and there are multiple athletic fields
including a new football field. The 450-seat stadium-style auditorium has a thrust stage and serves as an intimate
performance space and lecture hall. The building features commissioned art, large windows to admit natural light,
as well as large public areas.
|
The new high school
was the first phase of the school building improvement plan. Currently, the original high school is undergoing
major renovations to give the town a new upper middle school for grades 7 and 8. The existing middle school will be
renovated and updated to serve as the lower middle school for grades 5 & 6.

Marblehead Middle School has been honored by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School of
Excellence. As an active volunteer in the schools, I am especially pleased to have served as Co-Chairman of the
Middle School’s Site-Based Management Team.

In addition, Marblehead’s public school system includes two K-2 elementary schools, three K-4
schools, and a public charter school for grades 5-8.
I'd be pleased to send you a customized Marblehead public school report. Just send me an e-mail or give me a call.
The town is also home to two private schools: Hillel Academy (kindergarten through grade 8)
and Tower School (pre-kindergarten through grade 9).
Marblehead belongs to the North Shore Vocational High School area. North Shore Community
College has campuses in nearby Lynn as well as in Beverly and Danvers.
Salem State College is located right across the town line and Endicott College and Gordon
College are both a short ride away.
Plus there is easy access to the many fine colleges and universities in Boston and
Cambridge. Interestingly, Marblehead was considered as a potential site for Harvard University. However, the
founders chose that other town!
Marblehead also has a variety of private nursery schools and after school programs.
